Arlington Heights, IL, October 15, 2019 — Retired Air Force veteran Carl King has collected appetizer and dessert recipes from local residents for the second edition of his cookbook to benefit SALUTE, INC. The cookbook, "A Tasty Start and a Sweet Finish" features recipes for appetizers and desserts. The book will be distributed to stores in Arlington Heights and surrounding communities, and patrons can donate to SALUTE to get a copy.
The original “Carl’s Cookbook” was released in 2018 and featured simple and quick recipes that are easy for anyone to make, regardless of their experience in the kitchen. More than 500 copies of that book were printed and distributed.
“I’ve always loved cooking with and for my family,” said King. “So, when I retired, I decided to put together a cookbook with some of my family’s favorite recipes. But I felt that the cookbook needed a purpose. When my daughter suggested partnering with SALUTE, I knew it was the perfect fit.”
SALUTE, INC. is a Palatine-based nonprofit that raises funds to help meet the financial, physical and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans and their families. Much like the first edition of “Carl’s Cookbook,” 100 percent of the proceeds from “A Tasty Start and a Sweet Finish” will be donated to SALUTE, INC.
“We are so grateful that Carl has decided to include SALUTE in this wonderful endeavor,” said SALUTE, INC. co-founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. “The first edition raised $2,500 for SALUTE as well as awareness of our mission in the community. It also had some fantastic recipes! We can’t wait for the next book to be released.”
“A Tasty Start and a Sweet Finish” is now available in northwest suburban stores, including Preventative Healthcare (454 East Dundee Road, Palatine), The Office of Abdallah Karam, MD (657 East Golf Road, Arlington Heights), Lake Zurich Dental Health (444 South Rand Road #200, Lake Zurich), Armand’s Pizza (101 West Campbell Street, Arlington Heights), Raceway Car Center (7 North Rand Road, Lake Zurich), The Bakester Bakery (13½ West Davis Street, Arlington Heights), Louis Anthony (705 East Rand Road, Mount Prospect), Cook Cork & Fork (34 West Palatine Road, Palatine), JL’s Pizza (19 North Bothwell Street, Palatine), Palatine American Legion (122 Palatine Rd, Palatine).
